Liptov and Slovak Paradise by motorhome — slow travel in the heart of Slovakia

Liptov reservoir, Demanova valley, Slovak Paradise — top motorhome destinations in Slovakia. Campsites, hiking, waterparks and nature without the crowds.

Liptov and Slovak Paradise — the heart of Slovakia

If we had to choose two regions in Slovakia that no one should miss, it would be Liptov and Slovak Paradise. Both regions have a great deal to offer — lakes, caves, mountains, waterparks, hiking trails and unforgettable nature. And with a motorhome you can enjoy them fully, without the stress of finding accommodation and without the crowds in hotels.

Liptov

Liptov Reservoir (Liptovská Mara)

Liptovská Mara is the largest reservoir in Slovakia — an area of approximately 22 km². In summer it attracts surfers, kiteboarders, rowers, swimmers and anglers. Campsites and beaches line its shores.

What to do:

  • Swimming (the water is relatively clean)
  • SUP and windsurfing (rental points right by the water)
  • Kayaking and pedaloes
  • Cycling trail around the whole reservoir
  • Views of the Tatras from the shoreline

  • Aquapark Tatralandia

If you are going with children, Tatralandia is a must. One of the largest waterparks in Central Europe, indoor and outdoor pools, slides, thermal pools, children's attractions. Autocamping Tatralandia is right next to the park — forget the hotel.

    Demänová Valley

The valley between Liptov and the Low Tatras. Home to Jasná, the most visited ski resort in Slovakia — but it is equally beautiful in summer. Cable cars operate in summer too, taking you up to the ridge effortlessly, with views across the High and Low Tatras.

    Caves:

  • Demänová Cave of Liberty (one of the most beautiful in Slovakia)
  • Demänová Ice Cave (unique ice formations)

    Slovak Paradise

Slovak Paradise is a national park south-west of Spiš — and in character it is completely different from the Tatras. Instead of sharp peaks you find deep gorges, waterfalls, iron ladders and metal footbridges.

    Suchá Belá Gorge

The most popular hiking trail in Slovak Paradise. It takes you through a narrow gorge with waterfalls — iron ladders and metal footbridges allow you to ascend right alongside the flowing water. Difficulty: moderate (wet shoes are normal). Length: approximately 3.5 km one way.

    Kláštorisko

An abandoned Premonstratensian monastery on a rocky plateau in the middle of Slovak Paradise. Mountain hut and beautiful views. Accessible on foot from Hrabušice (approximately 2 hours).

    Hrabušice

The gateway village to Slovak Paradise. Here you will find motorhome parking, a campsite and the start of most hiking trails. From Hrabušice you can access Suchá Belá Gorge, Kláštorisko and other routes.
